As an addict to Urban Outfitters and their blog, I came across a photographer named Hedi Slimane. Slimane’s work is classy, beautiful, and breath-taking. Slimane has photographed many famous models, such as Kate Moss and rock musicians such as her boyfriend, Pete Doherty of the Libertines and Babyshambles. His work is always in black and white, which adds class to his photographs. The blacks just POP right out, and the whites a perfect illumination against the blacks. Side Note: One thing I learned this past spring semester in my Photo 1 class is that your blacks should be black, and whites, white. meaning none should look grey. Slimane is a MASTER at this in his black and white pictures. My personal favourite of his portfolio pieces is The Hedi Slimane Diary, which features models and his travels throughout The U.S. such as LA and different night clubs and rock concerts. Perhaps this is why I like him so much? Please, please visit his site at www.hedislimane.com. It’s definitely worth checking out!!!

Here’s a few of my favourites:

I wrote myself a sticky note today to remind me to blog every day, and check the Communications e-mails. I’m still working here at the Communications office for the summer. Anywho, just a little reminder to all of you out in blog-land, Sage-land, or whereever you may be, I’m going to keep up with this blog, thanks to a small reminder on a small “Post-It” note stuck to my computer.

So, a random thought came to me: Why doesn’t Mr. Ding-A-Ling play, I don’t know, a Hannah Montana song to attract kids to its delicious ice cream treats?( It seems that these days, kids are products of the media. Example: you can’t go ANYWHERE without seeing Hannah Montana on a label. We’re talking toys, clothes, even yogurt! [yes, YOGURT!]). If Mr. Ding-A-Ling is supposed to be ”kid-friendly”, why does he still continue to play “old fashioned” songs?

First off, I’m back to writing my blogs here at the good old Sage.edu site. Im updating this as much as I can because I have decided to intern at the Communications office this summer and they suggested that I blog! It’s good though, because I’ve been slacking on writing and I need to practice more (practice makes perfect, right?) ha-ha.

SO everyone probably wants to know where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing, so I’ll try to update you, and keep it as short as possible since even I don’t like to read alot (unless I’m extremely bored).

Well, I just finished my freshman year here at RSC and it defintely was a whole lot different than I expected. By that, I’m talking about the breaks I get between classes and the time I’m done with classes. Sometimes, I would get out of a class and have two hours between my next class. Now, if anything I’ve learned from my freshman year, it’s to use that time WISELY! to study, eat a good meal, and relax–but not too much. Another thing that I totally didn’t expect was my Photo 1 class to be such an uphill battle! Since I often do shooting myself, I thought it would be a breeze; alas, it was not. I actually shot with a Nikon FILM camera. Never have I shot film before, so that was definately tricky. I had no idea what a shutter speed was or aperture. But by the end of the class, I went from making boring prints and not knowing what I was doing, to becoming an accomplished Photo 1 student (my teacher even said so)! I ended up with a B+ in that class–the hardest I’ve taken in my academic career.

I could go on-and-on about my freshman year, but I like to write short, sweet, and to the point. Those two things were what I will remember most about my college experience.

So stay tuned to my blog! It’s going to get a lot better than before (since I have time to think about topics).

I can’t believe my first semester of college is almost done! Finals start next week and when they are over, my month-long break begins! I’ve never had a month-long break from school, so I think it’s going to be interesting. Over my break, I hope to do a few photoshoots so I can have a few more pictures for when I have my portfolio review at Sage College of Albany (I’m starting my photography minor next semester). Although I’m more excited about next semester, my first was great. My favorite class was Acting 1. I’ve always been into acting and I was able to see many great plays and write about them, which is another one of my favorite things to do. My job at the Communications office has also helped me develop my writing skills. I aspire to be a magazine journalist; when I wrote my very first article for Connections, I felt as though I was on the right path to achieving that dream. I think this semester was a good start to my first year at college and I’m excited to see what comes next.

It’s a month into college already, and I am FINALLY getting into the routine of things! I finally know how to operate Moodle, find time to do the layout for our newspaper, The Quill, and FINALLY, write another blog for all of you, out there in “blogland”.

You’re probably wondering, “hmm…what is Sam up to?” the answer: MANY things!!

The homework here, luckily, isn’t piling up. I have received a few essays for English, an essay for theater, and reading assignments in Psychology and Public Speaking. It’s a nice break from the work I had in high school!

I now work two jobs! One at my regular job, which is a party store, and now at the Communications office here at school. I enjoy both because everyone’s friendly.

It’s not all work, no play, though! I took the time to hang out with some friends, and get some awesome pictures. On Sunday, we went to Goold’s Orchards for a few hours and baked apple pies and made caramel apples (yum!). Going to the orchard always brings back childhood memories . My mom always brought my brother and I, and sometimes the dog. The dog would usually put his nose in the gofer holes, and my brother and I would climb the trees to get the best apples. And no, no one was hurt!

I enjoy every minute here at RSC even though it is only the first semester. I have an extremely busy schedule right now which has helped me learn time management. I’m really hoping that this Fall semester will teach me the right time management skills because I don’t have any time to stress out!
