Teach for America
January 2010 (which also marks the 20th anniversary of TFA) will have Dean Porfirio flying south to visit Memphis, Tennessee, and Clarksdale, Mississippi as a guest of Teach for America educators within respective regions of the cities. Vincent will be visiting schools effected by Hurricane Katrina as well as visiting secondary classrooms in various schools in at-risk districts.

“One Day, All Children…” Wendy Kopp (1989)
In her senior thesis as an undergraduate student at Princeton University, Wendy Kopp outlined a plan to recruit outstanding recent college graduates to teach for two years in America’s neediest urban and rural schools. Upon graduation, she founded Teach for America, a national corps that would have an important impact on the nation’s education system, putting a dent in the lingering problem of educational inequality.
