Many questions about textbooks & art supplies

Hi New SCA Students,

At Freshmen Orientation on July 16, 2009, many students (and parents) asked about books and supplies.  Textbook information will be available online by mid-August. See bookstore link below.  You will need class information from your schedule in SageAdvisor (Dept, Course #, section #, ie, HIS-105-10).

For art supplies, professors will email you (to your Sage email account) a supply list before classes start or some professors like to wait until the first class meeting.

My first semester at Sage…

Okay, so this is me posting. I hope this works because I’ve never “blogged” before. I came to Sage as a transfer student from Hudson Valley Community College, majoring in business. I was going to live from home, because I only lived 15 minutes away, however three days into classes I realized: 1) how exhausting it would be and 2) how I wasn’t really making any friends. So I went to the Resident Director on Thursday, September 4th; gave him my deposit; he gave me a key to a room; and then I moved in the very next day.

I got lucky to get a great roommate. She was easy going and was one of the nicest girls I ever met. Of course we were both girls and we both had a lot of stuff. I brought my whole life with me. Thankfully, to both her and I, I downsized during winter break. But the room was too small for all my clutter. Of course, we got on each other’s nerves a bit. Being around anyone in a small space can do that, but she is one of the sweetest and most hilarious people I have ever met. When you have a roommate in a dorm room, you have to be sure to respect their boundaries and clean up after yourself.

Anyway, my classes at Sage weren’t quite as easy-going as the classes at Hudson Valley I had taken. I had to work harder than I was used to and I tried to take six classes instead of five. I tried to overload myself in an environment I wasn’t used to. I had to drop one class and I took a work study job as an algebra tutor. I loved my teachers and the small class sizes.

After I moved into the dorms, I quickly made friends. Everyone was friendly and there was always a lot to do. I did better in classes living at Sage than I would’ve living at home and communiting. There was help from your friends when you forgot the homework or just didn’t know how to answer a problem right down the hall. My RA was always around if I had a problem and I did when I had a problem boyfriend that quickly turned into an ex-boyfriend when he became insecure about me living in the dorms. I had a lot of support for this unfortunate situation and I was able to take my mind off of it.

I am looking forward to coming back to Sage and starting a new year.
